We will take on any design challenge
(the design of our studio) |
| The building had character and greatly determined it's on path to renovation. |
| Next door to our 'once office' was an old building that was put on the real estate market. It stayed for a little over a year without selling. (in part, due to the condition of the building) It needed major renovation. We purchased the building and set out to turn it into 2 separate spaces. |
| (One space for the office/studio of AlexanderMedia, and the other a Collector's Accommodations) |
The biggest challenge was creating 2 spaces that would accommodate very different purposes and different visual appeal. And as with each of our design projects, we were going for long life and low maintenance.
(2 spaces, 2 versions)
First we divided the building into two sections. For the studio of AlexanderMedia we wanted an industrial look for the space.
| We removed the loose plaster that would eventually fall to expose some of the old brick that was beneath the plaster. On the exposed brick we applied several coats of flat varnish. The plaster that was left was painted gray. We used exposed conduit to run electrical and exposed duct for heating & air. |

(The floor)
The building was once a pool hall. The pool tables contained slate which put too much weight on the front section of the wooden floor and the joist. Instead of replacing the rotten joist, we removed them and poured cement leaving a 'step' separation for the space. We then laid marble over the cement. For the rest of the floor we left the original hard wood but placed over it new wood flooring. We then stained the floor with a maple (orangish color) stain and finished it with 5 coats of varnish. |
(Columns)
The lighted columns were added to enhance the lighting and give more purpose to the 'step' alteration we made to the floor. |
